The programs will be conducted using the Responsive Classroom approach where strong emphasis is given on 5 key social values— Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, Self-control (C.A.R.E.S).
All activities in the program are delivered using these five elements to make the learning environment emotionally and psychologically “safe” for each individual child in the session. When kids learn together and learn from each other, the learning environment becomes a pleasant place for them to be in and not a place where they will feel anxious and fearful. Doing so will help them develop and achieve the love for learning.
Children’s learning experience in this program is not only confined in examples given or seen in books. Role playing, outdoor experience, games and simulations will be one of the few things that can be expected from the program.
A fun learning environment, with plenty of laughter and respect for the learner's abilities, fosters an effective experiential learning environment. Each learner is encouraged to directly involve themselves in the experience, in order to gain better understanding of the new knowledge being taught and retain the information for a longer time.
One of the best ways to teach young kids about socio-emotional learning is through reflection. Developmentally, kids are not yet fully equipped to do reflective learning under direct and explicit situations.
To rise above this developmental requisite, the use of engaging stories through tales and fables will help explore their own feelings, attitudes and behaviour they can identify with in relation to the characters portrayed in the stories. Through this identification with characters, kids will be able to make meaningful reflections about their own traits and behaviour and ultimately to realize that they are all unique and special.
Creative play is a very important aspect of early childhood development. Kids learn best through imitation and modelling. Simulation activities and role playing allow students not only to imitate or mimic adults’ reactions to given situations, creative play is best utilized when simulations are channelled to train young kids to make sound decisions and choices.
Creative play also encourages creative thinking and reflective learning. It is through play where kids can project themselves that require empathy and understanding. Ultimately, creative play allows young kids to be imaginative, innovative and creative.
